1980s Sitcom Costume Ideas

Posted in Aid, Internet Information, Laughing Stock by admin on the August 26th, 2010

One cute idea for a Halloween costume this year is to go with a 1980’s sitcom theme. The 80’s was THE decade of the situation comedy, and even people who are too young to remember the sitcoms of that decade from when they originally aired have seen them in re-runs. 80sCostume.net has published an article with some very good 80s sitcom costume ideas, but we have a few more ideas to offer here too.

One obvious sitcom inspiration for a Halloween costume is The Cosby Show. Dressing as Bill Cosby from that show is pretty easy–all you really need is a cheesy and colorful sweater. After that, it’s all about attitude. Work on doing your imitation of the Cos, and practice some of his silly and cheesy dance moves from the show opening, and you’ll have no problem being recognized.

Another cute sitcom from the 1980’s was Alf. Believe it or not, this largely forgotten 80s sitcom character has a costume that’s available for purchase from various online costume retailers. Just do a Google search for “Alf costume”, and soon you can be the most sarcastic television alien ever.

One final idea for a Halloween costume based on 1980s sitcom television is to dress as Dick from the show Newhart. This is a perfect costume idea for someone who doesn’t want to go to much trouble, and to pull it off, you need a certain amount of age and a dry sense of humor. Just don’t expect many people to immediately recognize who you’re dressed up as.

Teaching Young Drivers: Some Advice for Parents

Posted in Aid, Home Improvement Infos, Profitable Real Estate by admin on the May 25th, 2010

Sash windows are an integral component of 18th and 19th century style. They make practical and aesthetically pleasing alternatives to casements, with their large glass panels and graceful proportions.

Despite much debate, the sash window is now thought to have originated in Yorkshire, England. They were developed there to keep out wet weather while permitting air to circulate by leaving a narrow opening, and were also protected from rot and distortion by being closed in a box.

There were both functional and aesthetic advantages to Sash windows, and many people chose to replace their old windows with them, while they were also popular in newly built homes. During the mid 18th century the introduction of the window tax caused many windows to be removed.During the Georgian era, sash windows became what they are today, with the development of the two moving sashes. Glass remained expensive and was marked with large bull’s eye patterns in the center of each pane due to the way it was made. As better methods of making large panes were found, windows with six panels in each sash appeared, becoming characteristic of the Georgian sash window..

The popularity of these windows have remained strong during the Victorian age, but they were ornamented with elaborate decorations. Victorian houses often have large bay windows and elegantly proportioned facades with the windows getting gradually smaller as their height from the ground increases. Four paned sashes are more common in houses built at this time. Imitations of older style windows were also popular towards the end of the 19th century, as the wealthy sought to differentiate themselves from the previously prized plate glass and narrow glazing bars that had became more affordable.

During the 20th century, sash windows have tended to disappear from our streets, being replaced by cheaper, mass-produced windows. An interest in conserving historical styles of architecture has recently revived the demand for sash windows, however. These modern versions are produced with all the latest advances in technology, but retain the traditional style and elegance of older sashes, along with their functional design.

Pension Reform - How the State Changes to Pension Regulations Could Affect You

Posted in Aid, Money Making, Your Finance Resources by admin on the May 19th, 2010

On sixth April two thousand and ten, a number of changes were introduced by the Department for work & pensions aimed at aiding adult females, carers and low wage earners in retirement, but it was not great news for everyone.

One of the most considerable changes is the inflated min. age for drawing a retirement pension. From 6 April, the nominal pension age was raised to age 55, affecting more than 4 million individuals who were born between the sixth April nineteen fifty five & the fifth April 1960 who unfortunately have to postpone for up to five yrs to get their retirement pension.

The state pension age for women also started to rise from the sixth April until it reaches sixty five in 2020. By 2026, it is set to increase to 66 for everyone, until it ultimately reaches 68 in twenty forty six.

Additional changes include a reduction in the Nat’l Ins (NI) contributions required to qualify for the maximum basic state pension, which raised from £95.25 a week to £97.65 a week from the 6th April. Men & adult females will now need to build up just thirty years of contributions, which the state anticipates will allow for an additional forty thousand adult females who get to pension age in the next tax year to provide entitlement for the full state pension.

The state 2nd pension will also be impacted by the reforms and now payments within the upper earnings threshold have been reduced from 20 to ten %. At some point in the future, this will be amended to a flat-rate payment rather than an earnings-related pension, & will proceed to be related to inflation, not wages.
A new credits scheme replaces the Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) scheme, which is designed to serve parents and carers to qualify for the basic state pension. From the sixth April, relevant years can now be built up by weekly credits. These can then be added on to any paid contributions made when at work, with no limit on the credits awarded, as long as the qualifying rules are met.

For those reaching state pension age after this alteration takes effect, each complete year of HRP, up to a maximum of 22 years, will be converted into qualifying years for the basic state pension.

Getting Noticed at Job Faires

Posted in Aid, Bestsellers, Blog News by admin on the February 11th, 2010

Standing out at a Job Faire can make a difference in your job hunt. Job Faires are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a SF Bay Area Career Faire in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and a major job search company has 82 career faires scheduled for 2010 across the United States.

How do you stand out at a Career Fair? The competition can be substantial, but you can help yourself jump out from the bunch with early preparation. At AA-Careers, we have a straight-forward 6-step process to prepare. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, research the organizations that are going and pick your objectives. Use the web to research the companies that are there ahead of time. Go to their sites and see if they have their jobs posted. Pick a sound number to go after, and get ready to spend an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than 9 in a day, and three or four is a much more reasonable target. For each hiring company, you want to know: recent news, key product lines, and exectuve names. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You’ll end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the company is looking for. Create a mapping of your accomplishments and skills to the prerequisites of the job. Make the language match. If the hiring organization calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring organization.

Third, create a ‘thumbnail sales pitch’ for each potential company/position combination. Write down a 90 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat verbally depicting why you are a fantastic candidate for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the team from the company at the job stall.

Fourth, modify your resume for each job type. The objective on your resume should exactly match the position you’re targeting. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job prerequisites. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be simple to see that you’re a match based on your resume.

Fifth, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each position - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a distinctly labeled folder. Keep them in a light briefcase or folio.

Finally, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be properly groomed. Avoid strong cologne or perfume…use any eau de cologne or fragrance sparingly, if at all.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!
