Get Motivated Today
For years, I had goals. I had dreams and ambitions. But I found it really hard to find the motivation to get them done. When I knew I should spend the day writing, other tasks always seemed more important. There were clothes to wash, rooms to tidy. There was always something on TV I needed to watch.
I’d look back at the end of each year and feel disappointed. My ambitions seemed so far away, I wondered whether I was ever going to achieve them. I was just not following through and taking action on the things I knew I needed to do.
Then I discovered a system which has been the single biggest factor to improving my life.
This system will help you focus on your purpose in life. It will keep the things you want to achieve at the forefront of your mind so you can focus on work that’s important. It’ll stop you wasting time on things which just don’t matter.
But it’s not automatic. You can’t just do this once and expect it to work forever. In the same way you can’t go to a gym once and wonder why you’re still overweight three years later, you’ve got to work though this system every day. It’s a habit you need to consciously discipline yourself into doing.
To focus on your purpose in life, first work out what your purpose is. For me, it was to own a business and become a writer. For other people, it’s been about travelling the world, becoming a millionaire, losing weight, clearing credit card debt or finding a soul mate.
Decide now what’s important to you. What do you want to achieve over the next month, year, two years. Decide how you want to feel, or what sort of person you want to be. What house do you want to live in, what car do you want to drive. Dream big and find out what achievements will excite you. Be specific.
Don’t worry if you can’t immediately see how to make these dreams come true. I had no idea how I’d start my own business, or even what sort of business it should be when I first wrote down that purpose. What’s important is that you choose some goals that really excite you.
Write all these goals down on one sheet of paper. This is your purpose statement.
Your purpose statement will guide your life. Every time you’re planning what to do, let it guide you in the right direction.
Now you have to develop these three daily habits to really motivate yourself into taking action.
Every Morning
The first thing you should do each morning is to recite your purpose statement out loud. It’s important that you speak out loud, and in an energetic tone of voice. Get excited! This is your future you’re talking about here! Repeat it over and over until you feel totally energised and thrilled about your future.
Then decide on three outcomes you want to achieve today that will move you towards your purpose. Maybe it’s to make ten sales calls, write the draft of a song, or read a chapter of a book. Just make sure that all three outcomes move you one step closer to fulfilling your purpose.
Every Four Hours
Throughout the day, you might find you loose focus of your purpose and outcomes, especially when you first implement this system. You need to remind yourself of your purpose regularly, and get back the enthusiasm you had in the morning.
Set an alarm every four hours. Why four hours? I’ve just found that this time span works well for most people. If you feel you need more motivation, try three or two.
When your alarm goes off, review your purpose statement and three outcomes again. Get excited. Read your purpose out aloud. Remind yourself of the three outcomes you’ve committed to achieving today. Think of something you could do now to make one of the outcomes happen and do it.
Every Evening
As you go to bed, think about your day. How many of your outcomes have you achieved? What could you have done differently to achieve more? And, most importantly of all, allow yourself to feel proud of how much closer you are to achieving your purpose.
Always On Mind
The purpose statement is key to this system. Write it down and stick it up your wall. I can’t look at anywhere in my office and not see my purpose, even today. It’s there as a prompt. I also keep a copy in the front of my filofax. Any time, anywhere, I can review my purpose and get myself to feel so motivated I can’t fail to move forwards. By constantly reminding me of my purpose in life, I’ve managed to make it happen.
This system works. And once you discipline yourself to carry out the three daily habits, you’ll have a successful system that will move your life forwards too.

Amazing Motivation Comes From Finding Your Mission
Your mission determines the quality of your life for all time. It places you on a passionate lifelong self-improvement program. It’s something you must have to avoid the unwanted alternative.
Should you not have a mission then you will be on missin’. A missin’ is the emptiness of life you get from not deciding to have a Mission.
Without a mission you perish. With a mission you prosper.
Websters defines “mission” in the traditional Church sense of the word - in addition it declares it to be -
“a pre-imposed objective or purpose”
In the 1960’s when I entered the workforce it was common for men to retire and pass away within 12 months. Experts concluded it was because they had a mission as long as they were at work. Then had a sense of loss or emptiness when they finished up. They went on a missin’ and it cost them their lives.
In our own family we knew this truth only too well.
At 55 my Father lost his job of 37 years, came home , sat down to tell my Mother and had a fatal heart attack.
Today no babyboomer needs to face that fate when they get their last pay from a long term employer.
Here’s a plan to help you find and keep a mission - and renew the vigor of your youth.
1. Your Mind Mission
Make a commitment to lifelong learning.
Get on the Internet. Play and learn as you go. Develop new skills in areas where you loose a sense of time as you work.
With these new skills seek to solve the problems of others and you’ll have a well-developed mission and multiple streams of income. This will motivate you to develop further streams.
2. Your Mouth Mission
When you talk to other retirees or pre-retirees put the future before the past.
Associate only with those who speak positively of the future. That will reinforce your belief in a bright future. You will become more motivated to get the most from life.
3. Your Walk Mission
Wherever you go walk with a sense of purpose in your stride. The way you walk says a lot about where you are headed. Walk as though you have an important destination and others of like-mind will be drawn to you.
4. Your Spiritual Mission
Share your faith in God with passion. Give Him thanks for the wonderful life you are having and let others know that in Him you have a blessed assurance about the future - together with a powerful vision for the future. Remember - “without a vision the people perish” (Proverbs 29.18)
Your blessed assurance will encourage others to follow your example.
Develop your four-part Mission - Your Mind Mission , Your Mouth Mission, Your Walk Mission , plus Your Spiritual Mission, and you will have the motivation to stay with a self-improvement program. This program will drive your forward into the best years of your life.
Kenneth Little is a writer, teacher, public speaker and the publisher of a re-released classic - in a revealing ebook- that will show you how to get motivated to gain the best of health and wealth from all your future years.
Your self-motivation is the key to true success which will be yours no matter what your age.

Success Secrets - Achieving Ultimate Success
I hope you’re having an AWESOME week!
Let me first say that Lou & I really enjoy getting all the feedback and suggestions from you.
It’s fantastic stuff.
Onward.
Last night I was cleaning up my office, and going through some notes I had taken when I met with my business mentor in New York last week, and I came across a powerful quote.
This quote is actually very simple to understand, but literally blew my mind when I really thought about it.
“You must always strive to UPGRADE your conversation daily.”
When my mentor recited this idea, I was lost for a moment.
What did he mean by “UPGRADE your conversation”?
Then I got it. You see, so many of us get caught up in the “talking game”.
We love to “talk the talk”; but when it comes to “walking the walk” most of us find a way to busy ourselves, and get out of it.
The scary fact is most of us do this more than once a day!
If you truly want to be successful at whatever you do, you must upgrade your conversation daily!
What do I mean by this?
Well, if today you’re trying to figure out how you’re going to get tons of motivated sellers knocking down your door to give you their house, then tomorrow you need to send out the marketing that’s going to create that tidal wave!
The next day your conversation will be upgraded to:
“How can I improve my marketing pieces to get a better response?”
NOT: “How am I going to get tons of motivated sellers knocking down my door?”
Do you see the subtle, yet powerful difference?
If every day you take action in some way towards your end goal you will reach that goal!
You just have to get the ball rolling!
Stop wasting valuable time and money trying to figure out the perfect color paper to use for your postcards; or what are the perfect questions to ask when a motivated seller calls.
Just make some real money by taking action. If your paper color wasn’t perfect or your questions weren’t exactly right that’s OK because you learned something, and you can improve upon it the next time!
The important thing is you got the ball rolling.
So I challenge you today to Stop Right Now for 2 minutes.
Put down your pen. Turn off your phone. Focus on what’s the one next move you could make NOW that would propel you towards your goal.
–NOW TAKE ACTION ON IT! Don’t worry if it’s not perfect.
Just get it done.
Remember, bodies in motion tend to stay in motion; and bodies at rest tend to stay at rest.
It’s simple.
Get the ball rolling today and remember to always, always, always “strive to UPGRADE your conversation daily”!
To a rich week!

Words that Inspire: PASSION
What is your PASSION?
Dictionary says:
strong liking for or devotion to some activity, object or concept; object of desire or deep interest; love.
What it REALLY means:
doing something or believing in something that matters to you; making choices based on something that energizes you and excites you; one of the reasons you enjoy getting up in the morning and doing what you do.
Why it MATTERS?
Incorporating PASSION into your life and work feels good. Excitement replaces drudgery; Meaningful replaces ’so what?’; ‘Want to’ replaces ’should do’.
Questions that INSPIRE:
• What is your PASSION? What action, belief, vision or object excites and interests you?
• What would it feel like if this PASSION was a part of your life every day?
• How is that feeling different from now?
• What one step can you take today which will make your PASSION more a part of your life or your work?

Principles of Human Misery / Happiness
Principles of Human Misery / Happiness - By Joseph Ghabi
Sometimes we are so occupied with our daily routine in life that we forget that “we” are the most important element of our existence. We need to be nourished in order to grow.
When we look at the people around us, we most likely find that most people’s favorite pastime is to complain. And just why do we complain anyway? Is it because we need something? Is it that we lack something? Is it that we need or want sympathy? Is it because we need attention? Is it just that we just like to complain; or is it that we just like to hear ourselves talk? Is it becoming a pattern with you? These are some of the most common elements that describe our problem.
I generated a list that can either make us happy, or it can make us miserable. Sometimes we need to draw the line for ourselves, and we are the only ones who can do that!
Be Happy!
1-Just simply be happy and content with yourself, and who you are. 2-Love yourself. 3-Accept yourself for who you are, and as you are. 4-Life is simple, stop trying to complicate it. 5-Life is about understanding. The lessons and experiences you have are only for your own growth and for better soul awareness. 6-Discover who you are, and your soul, and get acquainted with that. 7-Make some time for yourself every day. 8-Learn to listen. 9-Pay attention to your child(ren), help your elders, and you will feel fulfilled. 10-Be good to yourself. 11-Accept humiliation as part of your growth. 12-Always have peace of mind. It’s not easy, but try to create it.
Life isn’t what challenges us, “we” challenge “ourselves”.
Be Miserable!
1-Do live for other people and feel miserable. 2-Do look to others for support, become dependent on others. 3-Do live up to a fake image that is not you. 4-Do take care of everyone before yourself. 5-Do always negate yourself. 6-Do love others before loving yourself. 7-Do live according to traditions just to please others or do things that do not fit in with your own philosophy in life. 8-Do live other people’s life karma who they are. That including your family. Live your own life karma. 9-Become greedy, jealous, stubborn, or too sensitive to accept criticism. 10-Do allow your ego and pride to take over your life.
Life is simple so let’s stop complicating it.
Choices are out there. It is up to you to choose your own direction in life. It is very important to realize that we hold our own destiny in life, and no one else’s. It is also very important to understand your own rights, because you do have FREE WILL. Even the GOD, which I refer to as a “Great Energy Force”, that you believe in respects your Free Will because you are part of this GOD and that energy is in us always. If your GOD does not respect that, then it becomes a contradiction and goes against all that’s out there in all religions. This “great energy force” is all about love, forgiveness and compassion, and not anything else.
When our GOD will respect our Free Will, why aren’t we humans respecting each other’s Free Will? In many instances we have been raped of our Free Will by the many limitations which are inflicted upon us every day. Such limitations can manipulate the direction we will take in our lives, thus affecting our karma. We do this as individuals and as a society.
When a human Soul says NO to someone, it does NOT mean YES or that they can try to manipulate the other person in order to change their decision, by tapping into their weaker side. No means No and that has to be respected at all times otherwise we are creating karma for our soul.
As a society, we witness this being manifested throughout history by every empire, civilization, or source of power that had surfaced over time. They all came, and disappeared quickly. Why is that? Very simple! When these civilizations were taking control over other civilizations, against their Free Will and their way of life, it helped to create a deep anger, and frustration and all kind of energies that accumulated and became a universal force which was ready to explode at the right time. At the same time these civilizations became greedier, and wanted to control everything until things started to crack and fall apart. We have seen this throughout history and, as we know, history has a way of repeating itself because we never learn. While the pattern remains misunderstood, we will keep repeating it until we learn the intended lesson. I will go over, at a future date, the concept of a nine-year cycle for us as individuals, and how we can apply it to our society.
Money is power - power is control. In our universe there is an abundance of this. Once we learn to share this money, or power, we’ll manage not to be afraid that someone will be taking something away from us. Then we will have peace. This kind of inner peace, and the cycle of life, will move us to higher ground. Until then there will be no peace in ourselves. Example: Take rich ‘powerful’ men. Forget what they can buy, the majority of them are NOT happy and they will always feel like there is something missing, or that cannot be bought with money. Why is this? Very simple, until that rich man learns and understands his wealth and is sharing it with his fellow man and not just giving it away for the sake of giving it (perhaps as a tax write off) that peace will never be found. It is all about sharing the knowledge on how to make it, and to never be afraid that by sharing it they would have anything taken away from them, because there is always an abundance of wealth in the universe. The minute they learn this, they will start to find fulfillment in their life. Consider this for a moment!
So what is Free Will in the first place?
Free Will is very simple. As human beings, it is the one thing that we hold as our ticket in life and that allows us to change the direction of our life when we choose to actually use it. Free Will, in my view, is the way we perceive our life as well as the way we portray ourselves. When we always see ourselves as victims then there is no place for Free Will in our subconscious. When we see ourselves progress, we see that we have a choice to make a difference, and then we are using our Free Will. We might think that we have no opinion or have no choice in the matter because this is what our society has dictated to us. Many of these influences came upon us only in order to help control our views, and direct us to what they think might suit them, and not necessarily us.
Some of us do not believe in Free Will. That is alright with me because that is their choice and they have the Free Will to do so. I respect this. Believing in Free Will or not, you are still exercising it in your daily life whether you know it or not. Just simply by saying YES or No! How come? Your circumstances and direction in life are dependent on that YES or NO choice that you take and you will live according to that decision. It was your choice wasn’t it?
In human terms as an example, it is like the Veto that they have in the United Nations, when countries vote on a resolution. Certain countries have the veto power to turn down a resolution. Now Free Will is given to us to use anytime we need to take a decision in life. Why? In life we are held responsible for all of our decisions, and should not feel guilty any time we use it. It is given to us from that “Great Energy Force” that created our universe, and space, and that allowed us to come here and experiment our growth and evolution in order to be enlightened and progress.
In the end, you can live happily or you can live miserably. Take your life in your own hands and make your own choices! Simplify instead of complicating life.

Mastering Emotions: Taking Your Life To The Next Level
Hello,
How is your day coming along? Better, I am sure, than that particular day the crew of the Apollo 13 had as they were on their way home to planet earth.
The return flight of Apollo 13 will forever be one of the most momentous flights ever recorded in history. And what most people remember most vividly is the single remark: “Houston, we have a problem.”
Now, life, and daily living in general, is a process, and an ongoing series of opportunities. Some of these opportunities are pure delight and pleasure and some are of a nature that calls for a different type of flexibility, resilience and persistence. The Apollo 13 crew faced a challenge that threatened their very physical existence on a level that would have defeated most human beings, because most human beings have never learned to master their emotions. What they have learned, instead, is to be led by their emotions, which is another way of saying being mastered by their emotions.
If there is anything that illustrates the importance of mastering emotions, the return trip of Apollo 13 does that. Because, far more important than the million upon millions of dollars that were at stake, human lives were at stake. The Apollo Crew brought themselves home safely, with the help of the Houston team, because they kept their heads, focused their minds on conscious and unconscious levels and thought and acted effectively.
And you might be thinking, “What does this have to do with me?” I am not an astronaut, and never will be.
I’ll come back to that! Switching gears, I am wondering if you watched the first series of “The Apprentice”? If so, you know who Bill Rancic is. He is the one (out of 216,000 applicants) who became Trump’s assistant, against all odds. I heard Bill speak recently and he described the experiences and challenges they were put through, including enduring 12 weeks sleeping only 1-2 hours a night, literally pushing them to the edge physically, mentally and emotionally. Perhaps that partially explained Omarosa! As for Bill Rancic, he demonstrated his ability to master his emotions rather than having his emotions master him, as most all of the other candidates did.
Again, you might be thinking, “What does this have to do with me?” I’m not going on “The Apprentice.” Fair enough.
Yet every day, people you know, including yourself, encounter situations that call for mastering emotions, for emotional wisdom.
You might be a mom or dad-who in the past while in a store with your child, looked up and… your child was nowhere to be seen! What was your reaction? Now you understand the value of “mastering emotions!” And what about the college student going in for the final exam that is pivotal to her future? Or consider a recent experience of my oldest daughter, Dana, who graduates from the Loyola University/ Chicago this June. She recently worked all weekend on an important paper, only to lose it when her computer crashed. She had to write the paper again, having only a couple of hours to rewrite it. And that is exactly what she was able to do, because long ago she had developed the beliefs and skill sets involved in creating useful emotional and mental states required for such situations. And good that she had such ability, because in the beginning of her program, her class was told that within a year, only about half of them would still be nursing students. The rest would be driven out by the rigors of the program. In short, they were told that the ones washing out would not be able to handle the “stress factor.”
What about the person being called into the boss’s office, after many rounds of “downsizing?” Or the emergency room physician being confronted with the worst case she has ever seen, and more than that, has never before handled…knowing that a life is in her hands? Or the spouse who has just been informed by their partner that he or she no longer wants to remain in the marriage. And what about someone in your office that you would not wish on anyone else? Someone who does what they can on a regular basis to try to “push your buttons?”
The fact is, that on an ongoing basis, we are called upon to respond to situations, people and circumstances that call for emotional resilience, flexibility, focus, creativity, and the ability to keep our heads, so to speak.
Fortunately, every human being has an incredible opportunity to learn the skill sets, the beliefs, the values, and the behaviors that are involved in the matter of “Mastering Emotions.” And with the phrase “mastering emotions,” I am referring to mastering your own emotions and the emotional states and behaviors of others around you. Others, for the most part, have never learned how to effectively create what I call “useful states” for themselves. I will go so far as to say that most human beings have been taught precious little about mastering emotions…about how they can understand and resourcefully respond to their own emotions…and to the emotions of their significant other, their children, their extended family members, their friends, their colleagues, their bosses, managers or employees!
Normal And…Unhealthy
Most people that I talk to and interact with have very little comprehension of the fact that they are creating their own emotional states on an ongoing basis. By that I mean, most human beings believe that what creates their emotional states is the particular circumstance that they are facing, what someone has said to them, or what some individual did or did not do as they interacted with them. Going further, most people would say that it is “normal” to respond to “challenging circumstances” with anxiety, doubt, anger, and even with some degree of “helplessness.” Well, I say, “screw normal.” Because what I have found are ways to respond effectively and resourcefully to what many say cannot be responded to resourcefully and effectively! And how did I do that? Simply by observing the fact that others have learned to do so, and by asking someone who had mastered what I wanted to learn to teach and coach me how to do just that!
After all, I had learned how to respond in a less than resourceful way to many circumstances of life. And then I learned that all behavior is learned behavior. So, why shouldn’t I learn how to master emotions? And that is just what I decided to do five years ago. That decision, and all that followed, was one of the wisest decisions I had ever made in my life. Period.
Now, I believe that if we cannot own our own emotions and take full responsibility for the emotions that we create for ourselves, it will be quite difficult, if not impossible, for us to create the life we truly desire. Where is the wisdom in creating stress for ourselves and those around us and at the same time expending our efforts toward our hopes and dreams? And that is precisely what we will do if we rely upon others and circumstances to create pleasurable and healthy emotional states for ourselves!
Because, life rarely goes exactly as we desire, does it? Human beings are far from perfect, and we have not found a way yet to put ourselves in an environment where all is as we desire. So you might select a “well formed outcome,” then really go for it, and in the process of your journey, countless adjustments are called for! Others do not do as you would like for them to do, or perhaps the weather is not ideal for what you are going for. For instance, my daughter Jamie, who is in Spain studying for the semester had planned a weekend in the mountains recently and was very excited about her plans to being in the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains. However, the day before she was to head up the mountain, it snowed, and snowed, and snowed, and snowed, and snowed even more! The mountain peaks were inaccessible by car…and she made adjustments to her plans so she would enjoy her weekend. Now, how many people do you know who go off on vacation only to complain about this or that…because things do not match up to their expectations and demands?!
The Emotions of Life…
Are Up To You
Consider the millions upon millions of human beings who wake up on a regular basis to “face the day,” and do so with less than zest, vigor and passion for what they will be doing throughout the day.
Is life not too brief, and too precious to live that way? Is life not important enough for us to really learn, I mean really learn, how to create a rich and resourceful inner life, and a set of beliefs, values and behaviors that allow us to move through the day, the week, the month, so to speak, with a resourcefulness and flexibility to create the emotions we desire to experience, rather than being victims to circumstance or to other human beings?
Regarding “mastering emotions,” there are skills that we can learn, such as how to build what I call a “Foundation State,” which is quite easy and enjoyable to learn with some guidance, even over the phone. You can learn how to change certain beliefs through an exercise aptly called “The Belief Change Exercise!” Or you can learn how to easily, and yes I mean easily, respond “neutrally” to a past event that in the past was quite painful to you when you remembered it. When you learn how to use your brain in a different way, all of these things are quite easy. Curing phobias, eliminating stress, depression or anxiety. There will always be more than enough people telling us how hard it is to do what I have just described. They are locked into the same mindset of those who just knew that human flight via an aircraft was not possible, and that it would never be possible for sound to travel through wires, or that computers would never be small enough or affordable enough for the masses. So, believe what you will. As for me, I would rather follow someone who is doing what everyone else says cannot be done!
Helen Keller Illuminated The Way…
Can Anyone See?
Now, just how does one go about learning how to master emotions? I am reminded of Helen Keller who had the wisdom to accept help from another human being who cared about her. Helen Keller understood the value of a teacher to accelerate the learning process. Now, do you think that her teacher, Annie Sullivan, always taught her in a pleasant and comfortable manner? Or did she, at times, have to push her, and push her hard…to awaken her? Surely there were times of confusion, frustration, and more. I was not there, so all I can speak to is that in time Helen Keller became one of the greatest teachers to grace this planet. She learned how to master her emotions, her frustrations, her patterns of stopping short of what she was capable of, and she went on to literally create the emotional states and behaviors that would take her where she wanted to go.
What a brilliant woman! She did what few will ever decide to do, and that is to ensure a bright future for themselves by learning the tools, the strategies, the beliefs, the behaviors that would generate emotional states to fuel their hopes and dreams! I am reading my second book about Helen Keller now, entitled “Helen Keller, Rebellious Spirit.” She lived a remarkable life that was celebrated in books, articles, documentaries and photographs. She was the subject of an Academy Award-Winning film and a Broadway hit. Helen Keller met with every President from Grover Cleveland to John F. Kennedy. She counted among her friends famous individuals such as Mark Twain, Alexander Graham Bell and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Carl Sandburg once saw Helen Keller onstage in New York City in 1922 and wrote to her, saying, “Possibly the finest thing about your performance is that those who hear and see you feel that zest for living, the zest you radiate, is more important that any formula about how to live life.”
It seems that Helen Keller had a healthy spirit that rebelled against “normal.” She went against the grain and decided to master her emotions rather than allowing them to master her, as most do.
Now I do not know about you, of course, and how much, or even if you really desire to learn how to master your emotions. I do not know how much, or even if you desire to learn how to respond resourcefully to those around you even when it appears that they are communicating and behaving in quite an unhealthy manner. Perhaps you are that rare individual who is truly desiring to get your life on a whole new level by mastering emotions. If you are that rare individual, I extend an opportunity to you, an opportunity to let me know what is on your mind. You can reach me at 630-747-7423 or by e-mail at: alan@geniusdynamics.com . I look forward to your thoughts.
To Your Best Future,

This Is Your Lucky Day!
Remember that day when everything was perfect? You had positive momentum. Everything you touched turned into something good. If you were a golfer on that day you were the master of your sport. Your shots were long and accurate. Your putts were right on the money. On that day as a salesperson everyone said yes. As a CEO your company was profitable in all areas. As a manager your people were motivated and productive. As a parent your family was in complete harmony. How well you remember that totally lucky day. On that day your life was truly a celebration. Now think about the other kind of day. You know what that was like. Nothing seemed to go quite right. The harder you tried the worse it got. On that day even your favorite chocolate didn’t taste so good. What can you now do to have more of those lucky days? You can create your own luck and here’s how to do it. According to psychologist Richard Wiseman, these four principles can create good fortune in your life and your career. 1. Maximize Chance Opportunities: Lucky people are skilled at creating, noticing, and “acting” upon chance opportunities. 2. Listen to Your Lucky Hunches: Lucky people make effective decisions by listening to their intuition and gut feelings. 3. Expect Good Fortune: Lucky people are certain that the future will be bright. Over time that expectation becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. 4. Turn Bad Luck Into Good: Lucky people imagine how things could have been worse. They don’t dwell on their ill fortune. They take control of the situation. Benjamin Zander tells this story. The president of a bank was having an important meeting with his loan officers. Suddenly an employee who was frustrated with a new client burst into the room. He began shouting and banging his fist on the desk. The bank president said, “George, please remember Rule Number 6.” George became totally calm, apologized, and left the room. The bankers returned to their meeting and a short while later a secretary came in and began yelling loudly about a problem she was having. The bank president said, “Mary, please remember Rule Number 6.” Mary also became calm, smiled, and left. The loan officers were stunned. Someone asked, ” What in the world is Rule Number 6?” The bank president said, ” Rule Number 6 is Don’t take yourself so darn seriously.” What are the other rules they asked? There aren’t any. When we can lighten up, good luck can find us. It is almost the start of the New Year. This is a good time to put yourself on the Good Luck Path. What do you intend to do? You have all heard the old saying: Most people spend more time planning their vacations than their lives. Try this–make a list of ten intentions for your new year. Not resolutions, but intentions! By using these principles you can become a “GOOD LUCK” magnet. Even your chocolate will have a new and wonderful flavor. As Jackie Gleason Described Life — “How Sweeeet It Is!”
Life Coach - Excuse Me?
What is a life coach, anyway? I asked that question of my friend, Elaine, who had just completed her training at Coach Institute. She told me, “Therapy is about the past. Life Coaching is about the future.” Okay, that helps some.
She went on to say that in therapy, people look to the past to solve their problems in the present. But in life coaching, they learn skills and tools to move forward into the future. It’s not about healing, so much as it is about training. It’s also about getting to know yourself and your own talents so that you can make a living doing something you really love and are good at.
There are lots of specialties in life coaching. Life is one of the broadest topics there is, of course. It seems that a good life coach can teach you some general principles and tools and then help you apply them to your specific life situations. Some stay with the broader versions, helping people to develop themselves in many aspects of life including work, leisure, family and spirituality. Others may specialize in things like life work coaching or divorce coaching or spiritual coaching.
Coaching isn’t for people who have childhood traumas to heal or who need therapy about some past situation that is still affecting them in the present. It’s more for those who are doing pretty well in their lives, but want to do better, branch out or find something new to do.
One of the biggest areas of life coaching is coaching the coaches. Many people are entering this new field and looking for ways to find clients and hone their skill at teaching and supporting people. It’s a profession you can coach individuals or groups, either in-person or on the phone. You can even coach online via email or a chat room. There are lots of teleconference calls available on various aspects of coaching. Many of these are free.
Look for information online at places like Coachville.com and CoachingInstitute.com. Do a web search for coaches in your area of interest. See what you can find out about this up and coming field!
