5 Ways To Having The Happiest Valentines Day Ever! (Even Whe
The thought of Valentine’s Day conjures up romantic evenings, a candlelight dinner, and long walks with your loved one. It is, without a doubt the most romantic day of the year. So how could you possibly be expected to enjoy Valentine’s Day when you’re alone? Well, while it might not be all hearts and flowers, you can still spread the message of Valentine’s Day: Love.
Over the years, I’ve interviewed numerous people and asked them what their favorite Valentine’s Day memory was. Surprisingly, very few couples actually mentioned a gift or a special night out. In fact, most of the people I interviewed remembered their special Valentine’s Day by things they did for others. Gifts they gave, whether they were store bought or home made that gave them the feeling of joy and happiness.
A heartwarming Valentine’s Day for Jacque from California, was when she was in charge of bringing little treats for her daughter’s 3rd grade class. After agonizing on what to do, she decided to make the extra firm red Jell-O, and cut them into heart shapes. After running to the store to get more mix, and spending a lot of time cutting out the heart shapes, she was frustrated and wondered why she ever signed up for the job in the first place. Was this a big mistake? When she passed out the treats in school, the kids’ eyes lit up, and their sweet little voices filled the room with laughter and excitement. All the kids loved it! Jacque remembers feeling incredible that day. Her heart was glowing with happiness to see how much those kids loved her little treats.
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our daily chores, that we often forget that children need to be remembered too. Teenagers often feel left out on Valentine’s Day, but a handsome Colorado man gave two giggling teenagers a Valentine’s Day they will never forget. Geoff was working on a resort property trimming trees, and noticed there were two smitten teenage girls sitting on the balcony watching him while he was working. Geoff knew he would be finished on February 13th, and thought he would he would surprise them with a dozen red roses on Valentine’s Day, and signed it, the tree trimming guy. The girls were thrilled to get flowers on Valentines Day, and were still talking about it four years later! Geoff ranks that day as his all time favorite Valentine’s Day!
Making someone happy (especially when it’s unexpected) has a euphoric effect on you too. It’s happiness shared twice. Is it possible to have a happy Valentine’s Day even when you are breaking up? If you have a sister like Linda, you can. Linda’s sister was going through a divorce in February, and she was heartbroken and distraught. On that Valentine’s Day, Linda secretly sent her flowers at her office, and signed the card, “From your Secret Admirer.” As soon as her sister received them she called Linda and said, “Oh my God, you will never believe what just happened, I got these beautiful flowers today, but I have no idea who they are from!” Linda had all she could do to keep from laughing, and giving away her little secret. Linda’s sister went on to say that the entire office was trying to figure out who her secret admirer could be. Linda was happy that she could give her sister a happy Valentine’s Day even when she was facing unhappy times.
Yes, it is possible to have a great Valentine’s Day, even when things are looking a little dismal. Here are a few ways you can share your love this holiday.
5 Ways to the Happiest Valentine’s Day Ever!
- Send a heartfelt Valentine Card to someone who has really inspired you and tell them how much they mean to you.
- Make a homemade Valentine Card and send it to your favorite relative you haven’t seen in a while.
- Send flowers or candy to someone who doesn’t have a sweetheart, and sign it anonymous.
- Make a Valentine’s Basket and send it to a family that has gone through a difficult time and sign it, From Your Guardian Angel.
- Take your little niece, nephew, or cousin out for ice cream.
Giving is the fastest way to feel good about yourself. It doesn’t have to be expensive, even a single hand picked flower will do. Anything coming from the heart will surely be felt and appreciated. It’s two gifts in one. One is for the recipient and even a bigger gift for you.

Proform - The Highly Recognized Name in Treadmills
Proform is a highly recognized name in treadmills. Proform has
been around for many years and is a subsidiary of the same
company that manufactures Nordic Track and Reebok. Proform
treadmills get varying reviews from users. Some people are very
satisfied with the performance and quality of their Proform
treadmill while others insist they lack in quality and
longevity. The most common reason Proform is chosen over other
brand names is the affordable price. Proform has introduced
several new models recently that include a three year warranty
and offer new features not previously found on Proform
treadmills. In general, Proform treadmills range in price from
$500 to $1,300 dollars. With new treadmills being introduced by
various manufacturers each day, Proform is not as competitive in
regard to pricing as the company has been in the past. Online
stores and the ability to purchase directly from the factory
have created lower prices for consumers in purchasing high
quality treadmills. Traditionally, Proform treadmills have
included and inferior warranty and did not fare well in regard
to longevity and dependability. The newer models are an
improvement over Proform’s past equipment, however.
If you are a casual, infrequent treadmill user, Proform may be
adequate and suit your needs. If you are a serious treadmill
user, the Proform brand may leave you with a less than favorable
impression. The most common reasons Proform is chosen over
another brand are a tight budget and minimal usage requirements.
Proform has made some definite improvements in recent models, so
depending on the frequency of use and the amount you can afford
to spend, Proform may be adequate and provide you with the
quality you need.
Desperate Haste
“Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises?”… Henry David Thoreau.
These lines were written while Thoreau was living in hut at the edge of Walden pond near Concord, Massachusetts, between 1845 and 1847. Even then, this individualist philosopher recognized the problems of society’s materialistic value system.
It seems no one listened as we see the beginnings of the twenty first century with the “Corporate Alien” dictate of “desperate haste.” Companies go in and out of business, they merge to form bigger companies and exert an ever growing influence on the general public. Products come and go as there seems to be an ever growing need to innovate.
Marketing dictates our entire existence: from politicians and statesmen, whose campaigns cost millions to ordinary citizens whose lives are being entirely led by the commercialism of today’s media. The few that have acquired large amounts of wealth are setting the standards for the rest of us so that their wealth would continue to grow at our expense.
It’s not enough for one family member to earn a living these days. It seems that we’re all hurrying to work and hurrying back home on our workdays. Traffic rush hours are starting earlier and ending later. We’re always in a hurry to get somewhere in our cars. Some of us can’t just drive; we must chat or conduct business on our cell phones. It seems that many drivers usurp the rights of the lowly pedestrian. The auto seems to have the right of way because it’s bigger than the non mechanized walking individual.
Kids don’t just go out and play, like people of my generation used to do. Now kids have to be kept active with school sponsored activities, so parents must also drive them back and forth from school, to school and from one activity to another. Everything is so rushed, there seems to be very little time to get to know something really well.
There is no shortage of cars on the streets these days. People only walk far enough to get from their car to the store and from the store to their car. Even if the store is a couple of blocks away, they still take their cars. There are very few pedestrians, and these poor souls must yield the right of way to most drivers or face death or serious injury. Hit and runs are becoming very common. Drivers hit someone because they’re in too much of a hurry. They leave the scene because they can’t bear to face the financial and psychological burdens imposed by the complexity of modern laws.
When you consider all the news sources, if you did nothing but read for twenty-four hours per day, you still would miss quite a bit of news. Bloggers are encouraged to post every day, so that people wouldn’t get bored with your blog. We are living in an age of information overload and “desperate haste.”
It seems like everyone is desperate to sell us something. Our emails are bursting with discounts on everything from Viagra to substantial home loans. They promise to make us millionaires for $49.95. They give us more credit than we could handle so that we remain poor but buy things as if we were rich. They place spyware on our computers to track our buying habits.
The rise of the Personal Computer was, in itself, an exercise in desperate haste. Twenty six years ago there was a computer called the Commodore 64 that ran with 64 kilobytes of memory and was able to run basic office functions. Today’s computers are being sold with from 512 Megabytes to 1 Gigabyte of memory and this number is still growing as newer software gets developed. From 64K to 512M, today’s memory needs are about 10,000 times greater than that of early machines. The disk storage went from the single-sided 5.25 inch floppy storing 180K to commonly available 160G and larger hard disks. Disk storage has increased a million fold in twenty-five years.
You may claim that this is truly progress, but it is actually too much progress in too short of a time. Much of this progress was done to continually obsolete old equipment and sell new equipment. It also adds to the frustration of people trying to learn new software and just as they get good at it, it becomes obsolete.
Because everything was done in such a hurry, the systems designed are relatively inefficient. They must be constantly patched to keep from being taken over by viruses and spyware. I believe that we could have had extremely efficient systems consisting of an old IBM PC containing an 8086 processor, 640 Kilobytes of memory and 30 Megabytes of storage. But because there is no efficient software written for this type of system, it finds itself in a museum.
It seems the harder we work, the less time we have to stop and smell the roses. The more we rush, the poorer and more frustrated we become. As the world gets more corporate, the pace of our lives will quicken even more.
Today there is no value, no idea, and no purpose that doesn’t have its roots in some financial scheme. As long as we worship the corporate alien god we called money, our lives will continue to move with “desperate haste.”
Mr. Thoreau had a suggestion for us if we want to challenge today’s overly fast paced environment. He said “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”
George Lunt is someone who feels the world is getting too corporate. His writings relate the individual’s struggle with big government and big corporations. His website is http://www.corporate-aliens.com

11 Affiliate Tips
I have compiled a list of 11 affiliate tips which I think will
help you with marketing your web site and affiliate programs.
1. Spend a lot of time trying to get a high ranking in search
engines for your web sites. Learn as much as you can about
search engines and make it a weekly task to try to get good
rankings.
2. The word “free” and especially when written “FREE” is over
used. Use it only occasionally on your site. For example you
could use it to give away a free E-Book or free article you have
written.
3. Spend 75% of your time marketing your web site and affiliate
programs and 25% of your time working on them. Most people spend
about 10% to 20% marketing their web site and affiliate
programs. Then again, most people online do not make any money!
4. Use text links rather than banners for your affiliate
programs. Text links get a much higher click through ratio.
People have trained themselves to ignore banners.
5. Write you own articles and post them on a separate page on
your site. Then submit them to the following article resource
sites:
http://www.ezinearticles.com/add_url.htm
http://www.marketing-seek.com/articles/submit.shtml
http://www.web-source.net/articlesub.htm
6. Check your clicks and sales regularly at your affiliate web
site. If you see a slow down in clicks and/or sales then alter
your marketing. Try something different. Do not use the same
techniques if they are not working.
7. Use Newsgroups but do it in a clever way. Stand out from the
crowd. Use Newsgroups to announce new articles you have written.
But make sure you read the rules of each newsgroup and never,
ever spam.
8. Do not use graphics that slow your web page down. If you are
selling or pre-selling information have predominantly text on
your page. My site has 1 visible graphic on it. That’s right.
Just 1!
9. Join a number of newsletters related to the theme of your web
site. You can get a lot of valuable affiliate tips from good
newsletters.
10. Post articles other webmasters have written on your site,
but ask them first. You can even do your own review of other
people’s articles.
11. Find out whether any affiliate programs you belong to have
articles at their site and see if you can post them at your
site. Then you can include a link back to their site at the end
of the article.

Speed Dating: Scene and Heard
Literally speaking, there are 365 dates in a year.
Figuratively however, that’s not exactly how many dates one will
go on throughout the duration of the year. Not even close.
With society’s addiction to convenience comes another form of
grab and go: speed dating. But before you say, “Not so fast,”
look at these reasons this method of meeting someone worked for
many couples.
Perks to Speed Dating:
NO SUPRISES! UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL! You get what you see. With
Internet dating, you could be looking at someone’s senior
yearbook picture- but the youthful woman is really a 58-year-old
cat lady. Or, it could be a computer-manipulated image to make
someone look younger, older, thinner, and hotter… You get the
idea. With speed dating, you are face to face with a real
person. What you see is what you get. Personality and image get
to shine at the same time, rather than falling for someone
through e-mail or phone calls, and then getting nothing but
disappointed when finally meeting in person. With speed dating,
personalities could still clash, but that physical element is
there from the start. More often than not, that physical spark
needs to be there, so why not start with one? A cute demeanor,
silly facial expressions and style are all things that a phone
call, Website profile or photo cannot do justice!
SAFETY Again, you get what you see. You never know what is on
the other end of the phone or computer when you are chatting.
Hello?! Look at all these news stories of people being lured
across the country by some psycho on the other end of the
keyboard! And, this is not some seedy, dark bar that you were
supposed to meet a blind date in either. Speed dating events are
done in supervised, public locations in your own local area.
These are people from your neighborhood in your neighborhood.
SINGLE When you see a cute guy or gal out at a bar and strike up
a conversation, chances are they may not be telling you the
truth about their status. Maybe they are married, engaged or
dating. You may innocently hit on them, not knowing. They may
like the attention and play along, which could lead to regrets.
And, you not ever knowing, or finding out too late, of their
commitment. Also- how many times to you try to talk to someone
who just did not want to be bothered? Speed dating presents a
way to meet people just like you: single and looking.
AFFORDABLE Have you ever looked into one of those dating
services? Oh my! It’s upwards of $1000 for a membership. For
what? Letting someone else do the matchmaking for you? Internet
sites cost monthly memberships as well, but think how outdated
those profiles can be… someone meets someone and forgets to
take down their profile. You never get a response because, of
course, they are not looking anymore. That is a waste of time
and money! Speed dating parties are usually around $20-$30 for
one night of fun, where once registered, you can do the fun part
yourself- getting to know someone personally, and maybe even
start a meaningful relationship!
Speed dating- a proven safe, affordable and fun way to meet
someone like you. Give it a try!
Facts about Martial Arts for Kids - Part 1
There are many myths about martial arts training, and the
general public accepts some as fact. In the following article, I
have outlined general guidelines, and precautions, for parents
who are considering enrolling their child, or children, into
martial arts.
Below, I have listed some common issues and questions that
parents often ask about martial arts for their children. Also,
you will be much more informed about the benefits of martial
arts, the structure with a martial arts school, and know what to
realistically expect.
What should I be looking for in a martial arts school? Safety
comes as a first priority for parents who seek martial arts
instruction for their children. Here are a number of key factors
to consider:
Is safety equipment used when children are performing exercises
and drills that require contact? This is especially important
when children are sparring in martial arts. In many martial arts
schools, sparring equipment is required, or the child cannot
spar. The number of injuries resulting from sparring in Karate,
Kung Fu, and Tae Kwon Do is surprisingly low in comparison to
many league sports.
Never the less, I once had a father pull his son out of our
martial arts school because he found a karate studio that would
let his son “fight” without protective equipment. In our school,
it is mandatory to wear martial arts equipment for the safety of
the students. Sparring equipment has come a long way, so why not
use it?
The flooring surface should match the martial art. If take
downs, sweeps, and throws are required, there should be some
kind of matted floor available. Many of the state-of-the-art
martial arts schools have a floor surface specifically designed
for martial arts. It makes no sense to have anyone throw a
classmate on a hard floor, with the type of flooring available,
as this can result in long-term injuries.
Can parents watch Karate classes?
Let’s put it this way, if you cannot watch your child practice
karate, or any other martial art, you should find another
school. I can appreciate the fact that some martial arts
instructors don’t want to deal with interfering parents. This is
the reason for rules and signs.
Remember the “hockey dad” incident? There are a few people who,
through their own conduct, create rules for the rest of us.
However, you are the parent and are entitled to see your child
train in karate or any martial arts class.
Fire exits, fire extinguishers, and someone who monitors
visitors, as they enter a karate studio full of children, should
be standard features. We have three fire exits and one main
entrance, in our studio, but only one door is used for an
entrance. Kids understand security because they see the same
precautions in elementary school.
Also, watch out for poles in the middle of the room. Adults will
spot them, but an excited child in a karate class may forget and
end up crashing into one. Make sure that you feel secure about
the studio, surroundings, rules, and the staff before you make a
decision to have your child take martial arts classes.

Hiring the Best Sales Athletes
The principal driver of sales productivity is the quality of an organization’s salespeople. The best sales strategies slide into oblivion without strong salespeople. No sales management theory, practice or system can make up for having less than the best talent. But, having marvelous sales talent can moderate, for example, the problems caused by a flawed selling system.
Hiring the right salespeople is the most important task of a sales leader.
The best sales organizations invest significantly in, and are aggressive about, hiring sales personnel who are demonstratively goal-oriented, self-motivated and successful. They employ systematic and rigorous assessment and interview processes to ensure the right people are hired - often reviewing hundreds of resumes per hire and putting potential candidates through tens of interviews.
Successful sales leaders also seize every opportunity to hire competitors’ superstars who can change the profitable revenue growth results in a territory, of an assigned group of customers, for a sales team, etc. They aren’t discouraged by the amount of pay required to hire such an “impact player” because the combination of two dynamics creates a staff realignment opportunity:
> Results delivered by one high performer will be more than those generated by two or three mediocre performers; and
> The compensation cost of the high performer will be less than the total pay of the lesser performers.
High performance sales cultures employ results-oriented metrics that separate “winners” from “losers.” The metrics identify, within the context of the time required for a typical salesperson to reach full productivity, whether correct hiring decisions have been made. Results versus sales goals are regularly and clearly communicated to individuals. In this setting, sales leaders are intolerant of below goal performance and aren’t shy about replacing hiring mistakes. The metrics are also invaluable in revealing opportunities to accelerate the productivity of mid-level performers and leverage the productivity of high performers.
Employing superb sales athletes enhances an organization’s ability to grow revenue profitably. It also creates a competitive advantage that is more sustainable than investments in facilities, machines or R&D. Why? Because the advantage gained from people who perform is more difficult to replicate.
John F. Tallitsch is the founder of TopMark, a consulting boutique specializing in sales effectiveness and sales compensation. TopMark helps companies create finely-tuned, results-oriented sales capabilities through solutions encompassing: customer segmentation and targeting; sales strategies; sales force and territory design; performance-driven sales incentives; and talent strategies. Take Back Your Time
“You will never find time for anything. You must make it.”
-Charles Buxton
According to the organizers of Take Back Your Time Day, which was held on October 15, if Americans quit working on that date and didn’t work for the rest of the year, we would be working the same number of hours as the average European. Even with high unemployment, America has experienced near-record mandatory overtime.
The October 11, 2004 issue of Time magazine reports that on a typical day office workers are interrupted about seven times an hour — 56 interruptions a day — 80% of which are considered trivial. “We pride ourselves on being multi-taskers, but the truth is, we’re functioning at a state of partial attention,” says John White, international program director with Priority Management, a training company based in Vancouver, Canada. “Because of constant interruptions, our memory, follow-up ability, flexibility and quality of work start to erode.”
So how do we learn to slow down and enjoy our lives?
Managing our time is about clarifying priorities and being masterful at taking action on our intentions, rather than becoming a slave to the constant flow of events and demands on our time. When we operate in auto-pilot, we take action without thinking, which almost never yields the results we want.
Time management is not just a tool like a calendar or a Palm Pilot. It is a foundational skill upon which everything else in life depends.
Seven tips to help you manage your time:
1. Prioritize your week. Organizing your time without first clarifying your priorities is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Ask yourself this question: If nothing else happens this week, what are the most important activities or relationships I choose to pay attention to? Without making plans to focus on these priorities, you will most likely not get to them…especially if they are not urgent. Planning goes far beyond just making lists. A plan is when you have carved out specific time in your calendar (an appointment with yourself) to do something. Need help getting started with weekly planning? Visit our planning tip sheet at: http://www.orgcoach.net/sixsteps.html or participate in one of our teleclasses: http://www.orgcoach.net/teleclasses.html
2. Learn when to say NO. As Stephen Covey says, “It’s easy to say ‘No!’ when there’s a deeper ‘Yes!’ burning inside.” When we operate from a big-picture view of our priorities, it becomes much easier to decide what to say YES to and what to say NO to. Remember this truth: Every time you say yes to someone or something, you are saying no to someone or something else.
A good way to learn what to say NO to is to check your self-talk. Are you saying “I should…” “I gotta…” “I have to…” or are you saying “I choose to…”? Be at choice! Then write your not to do list and stick to it!
3. Limit your time for activities that consume you. For example, if you find that you are overwhelmed by e-mail, limit how many times a day you check it and how much time you’ll spend to read and respond. When I came back from vacation to more than 1000 emails, I was amazed at how unimportant some messages became! Limiting your time can help you to prioritize.
4. De-clutter your life. My definition of clutter: Anything you own, possess, or do that does not enhance your life on a regular basis. By this definition, clutter can be things in your physical environment. Clutter can also be activities, thoughts, and even relationships that don’t enhance your life. Once you clean up the non-physical clutter in your life, you’ll be able to make better decisions about what to keep and what to remove from your space.
As you de-clutter your environment, you can save a lot of money on your tax returns by donating items to charity. ItsDeductible is a tool that I have used for years to help me value what I donate. Although it guarantees that you will save at least $300 on your taxes, it has actually saved me thousands of dollars on my taxes each year. Visit http://www.orgcoach.net/products/taxtools.html for more information.
Take our free Professional/Business Organizational Assessment or our Personal Organizational Assessment to help you sort out what areas need the most attention.
5. Schedule protected time. In your calendar, block out time to work on projects that require concentration without interruptions. Then identify what boundaries you need to have in place so you can keep this time sacred. Here are some ideas:
* Put a “do not disturb” sign on your door or cubicle. At Quarasan (an educational-product developer in Chicago), workers take “focus blocks” of up to three hours when they absolutely cannot be interrupted. In any given week, about 25% of the staff use this technique. Signs hang on cubicles, chairs or doors, that say something like this: I AM FEELING TOTALLY FOCUSED RIGHT NOW. PLEASE RESPECT THIS PROCESS.
* Have a conversation with co-workers about needing uninterrupted time to work on your project. At Pitt Ohio Express (a trucking company based in Pittsburgh, PA), claims auditors take turns wearing a special black baseball cap to signal that they are absorbed in a project. Employees at Basex (an information-technology research firm in New York City), use instant messaging. A simple switch to DO NOT DISTURB status signals that coworkers should not call, email or stop by to chat.
* Turn off the ringer on your phone and let voice mail pick up your calls for a while.
* Avoid checking e-mail until you’re done with your project time for the day.
* Have a pen and pad of paper handy to write down the things that pop into your head that you “gotta do” so you don’t forget and can get back to them later. Schedule a little time after your protected time for following up with your “gotta do” list.
6. Reduce stress. Incorporate these into your daily habit: exercise, play, meditation, relaxation or quiet time to still the mind, healthy diet, enough sleep.
7. Separate work from your personal life. If you are regularly taking work home or working overtime, develop skills to negotiate with your boss (even if that’s you!) about when, where, and how results are produced. Manage by results, not by how many hours you are working. Take our free Work/Life Balance Assessment at http://www.orgcoach.net/_assessment/worklifebalance.html to determine how you are doing with this.

Baby Names
Okay, you only get to do this once so let’s get it right. Remember that it’s not about you! Your little boy or girl is going to have to live with this name for the rest of their life. If they change it on their 18th birthday, you probably did a bad job of naming your baby.
In this article, I’m going to take you on a tour of the Internet as I look for baby names. I’ll be your guide, so sit back and relax. I know what I’m doing here. Trust me.
Before we start, though, no drinking on this tour. It results in baby names like Justin Case, Sandy Castles, Paige Turner, Rusty Hook, Shaunda Lear, Candy Kaine, or others just as bad. As a matter of fact let’s start out by searching for what not to name your baby.
So, you want to be original. Great. Remember, your kid’s gonna be mad when he or she finds out there were much better choices! Ok, that’s not bad enough? Well there are websites that make fun of bad baby name choices too. Some quotes from websites about people’s baby name choices.
These are actual questions posted on the Internet about naming babies;
I love this one “I once met a lady named Rodana. I think she runs a successful Internet business.” In her spare time she destroys Tokyo.
And this one too. “I’ve suggested to my sister that she name her little girl to be - Manchester. She’s not sure about it but she’s considering. What do you think?” “Clever. Like being named Pittsburg or Schenectady. Kid’ll grow up to be beaten to death by Liverpool fans.”
“We’d kind of like something that sounds good with Mikayla (our 3-year-old).” “Dear God, they’re tailoring them into box sets!”
“What about the name skylar or raven?” “Thanks, 14-year-old-Goth-girl!”
“What about Bubba for a boy. a great unusual name ” “Since when did your Ozark shack get Internet access?”
“Do you like the name Alexia? I think it’s exotic and all 3 of my other girl’s names begin with an A too.” “Though Alexia sounds like a pretty name for a girl… alexia is actually an inability to read, caused by brain damage.” “So maybe she should another A name. Something pretty, like Amnesia.”
“I am not pregnant yet but thinking about names…I just thought of the name Lourdes Solange. This baby will be 75% latina and 15% european :)” “…and 10% polyester”
…and finally “Anyone ever thought about Sierra Joy? I love the name, but husband is less than thrilled with it.” “But he’ll love the pine-fresh scent!”
